A few weeks back we had "Prayer Time" on Sunday morning.
Can I be honest?
I struggle with prayer time.... Heck, I struggle with prayer.
Prayer is one of those things that can blow your mind when you encounter good one day and feel like you are talking to the walls on another. And there doesn't seem to be very much rhyme or reason as to when it will be one or the other. So, when we do "Prayer Time" I am keenly aware that no one really likes to feel like this 5-7 minutes of silence is time when you are expected to suddenly have some powerful conversation with God.
In fact, if I am sitting in the service for 5-7 minutes of silence, or even 1-2 minutes, I get anxious... I know it's weird.
Because of all this, we have tried to make it a bit different. We have tried to lower the lights, and give options (get up and pray, pray with those around you, pray to yourself, come forward to be received, etc..). We have also tried to use music and video.
Sometimes we have played a lyric video we have made with special instructions, guiding us in prayer. Other times we have just played a meaningful song.
This last time we played the song "Tis So Sweet" by Shane & Shane. (You can watch it below)
WOW!
Have you ever had a song bring you to the throne room of God? I have heard and sung that song my whole life. But hearing that version, at that moment, was like they reached into heaven, bottled up some of God's glory, and poured it out over my head.
As it played I watched families pray together, I saw tears streaming down faces, and I saw shepherds listening to people who approached them. But it really hit home when I got wrapped in a bear hug by a friend with tears in their eyes. In that moment, I got to be the arms of God wrapped around them and I got to speak the words of God to them.
As I did, I could hear the song playing in the background.
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His Word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know Thus saith the Lord
Those words are so true.
Jesus Jesus how I trust Him
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus Jesus precious Jesus
Oh for grace to trust Him more
