"Almost" Real

Barrett and I were at Ollies the other day when we found this dummy security camera.  Barrett hands me the package, laughing.  It reads. "Looks almost real."  

Barrett says, "If you have to add Almost, you missed the mark!"

....So true.

But it makes me wonder if that's what some people think we we claim to be Christ followers but don't live it out.  

  We are Christians.  We look ALMOST like God.

...Ugh.  That's a bad look.

The truth of the matter is we are lucky if on our best days we look ALMOST like God.  I would love to be the type of person who perfectly reflects God's character in all my words and deeds.  I am telling you right now, I am a long way off from that mark.  Thankfully, when God looks at us, he doesn't see a bunch of messes trying to ALMOST look like God.  We are not ALMOST real Christians.  When God looks at us he sees HIS SON.  He sees the real thing, alive inside of us.

Why God would choose to put the savior of the universe inside my sinful heart I will never fully understand.  But what I do know is that what I want the world to see is not me trying to ALMOST be like Christ.  I want them to see the REAL Christ who lives in me despite my failings.  Because then they are seeing the same grace given to me which they need for themselves.
