Youth & Family
Ministry Leaders | Brian Brophy
Our young people are an important part of the church family here at Reidland and we strive to make that evident in all we do. They are our future but they are also vital to the life of the church in the present!
This ministry is one which focuses on partnering with families to grow and form our students into who God is calling them to be. We are concerned about who they are becoming. I want us to continually ask ourselves the question, "By the time they head off to college what kind of people do we want them to be? What kind of values do we want them to have? What seeds of faith do we hope have been planted?" These kinds of questions help us decide how to best shape this ministry. Hopefully everything we do and participate in plays a role in the process of forming our young people...from the classes we provide, to the service projects, to the camps and weekend retreats and various other activities.
Although I believe a certain level of knowledge is important I am much more concerned about who they are as a person, about how they choose to live their life, about how they experience life beyond themselves to serve others, and about how they daily reflect the life and love of Christ to the world around them! I want them to be drawn closer to the heart of God so that they might more clearly be seen as the hands, feet, heart and words of Jesus.
This plan of formation cannot be accomplished alone. We have to work together as families and as a church family. We have to find more ways to include them in the life of the church not separate them into their own little group. Sure there will be times when they do things with their own peer group but there is a richness that comes from being a part of a diverse community who loves and challenges you to be all that God has created you to be.
Together we can make a difference. Together God can use us to do great things!
